3/4/13 - A fundraiser this past weekend raised about $20,000 for the recently-destroyed Faith Medical Clinic in Pinckney. The clinic, which provides medical services to people without insurance who cannot get care elsewhere, was destroyed in a fire on February 18th. The building is deemed a total loss, and the clinic is now looking for a new location. Clinic Founder Laura Goldman says there are plenty of challenges to this goal, including major financial hurtles. A $40,000 goal would allow the clinic to lease a building and continue operating for the next year. She tells WHMI that some relief came in the form of a fundraiser held this past Saturday at the Mission Church on D-19. Goldman says the emergency fundraiser was organized quickly to capitalize on the recent public memory of the fire and the support being expressed by the community. The fundraiser collected $20,000 for the clinic, mostly from free-will donations but also through a silent auction and raffles. About $12,000 has also been raised by other fundraising efforts, including donations collected at PNC Banks around the county. On March 15th, a 5k run will also raise funds for the clinic as well as Light of the World Academy. Donations can be made at PNC Bank locations, by Paypal at the web address below, or mailed to Faith Medical Clinic, P.O. Box 978, Pinckney, MI 48169-0978. (TD)
