3/5/13 - For those weather geeks among us, a class later this month in Hamburg Township is geared for you. The National Weather Service is again conducting free weather spotter classes for those interested in joining the Skywarn network, a volunteer program to help keep communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather. Anyone with an interest in public service is encouraged to take part, most especially those with access to communication equipment, such as a HAM radio. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter. Interested individuals need to commit to a free two-hour class. One is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27th at 7pm at the Hamburg Township Fire Department on East M-36. Seating is limited to the first 100 people on a first-come, first-seated basis. Youâll find details through the link below. (JK)
