3/6/13 - A mother-daughter team is holding fundraisers to provide necessities to the people of a small town in Guatemala during a mission trip this summer. Autumn Moricz says her daughter Alayna, who is a 6th grader at Navigator School in Pinckney, decided she wanted to help the people of Guatemala after some teachers and students from that country visited Navigator as part of the Waves of Friendship sister-school program. That same day, Autumn was contacted by an old friend who told her that she was starting a charitable organization in Guatemala, so embarking on a trip to the country seemed like a natural move. Autumn and Alayna will go to Guatemala in July to provide live chickens, shoes, clothing, stoves, beds, and toys to the people of Santa Cruz la Laguna. They will also meet up with teachers from Navigator school, who have visited the country for years to give lessons to local educators. Until then, the Moricz girls are holding fundraisers to pay for the trip and the supplies they will deliver. This Saturday, $10 yoga and pilates classes will be offered in a yoga studio in Pinckney with all proceeds going toward the trip. Details can be found in the events section. (TD)
