3/16/13 - A local farmer has won $5,000 for two Livingston County-based non-profit organizations. Phillip Ott of Fowlerville was selected as a winner in a contest called “America's Farmers Grow Communities,” sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. The effort gives farmers the opportunity to win a $2,500 donation to direct to their favorite local nonprofit organizations. To further support counties that have been declared disaster areas due to drought by the U.S.D.A. winning farmers in these counties were able to direct double the donation, a total of $5,000 to further support the community. Livingston County was declared a disaster area by the USDA, giving Ott the opportunity to place two $2,500 donations. He chose American Legion Post 141 in Howell and the Family Impact Center in Fowlerville. Ott and a Monsanto representative will participate in a check presentation ceremony on Monday at 1pm at the American Legion Post on West Grand River and M-59 in Howell. (JK)
