7/11/13 - St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brighton will be closing for renovations this summer and a nearby parish will be opening its chapel doors for members to use. Both a renovation and building addition are planned for the current church located near the Brighton Millpond, which has been a three year planning process. The Reverend Deon Johnson says it basically went from strategic planning and a conversation about what was needed as a congregation to better show who they are but that evolved into a realization that who they are and what the building reflects just didnât match. The original building that was built in 1880 will be completely renovated and an addition that was built in 1952 which currently houses the parish hall will be re-purposed into a new worship space. St. Paulâs will be closed during the construction process and the work is expected to take between nine and ten months and depending how construction goes; it could be complete by next June. The final service there will take place this Sunday but St. Mary Magdalen in Brighton Township has invited St. Paulâs to utilize its chapel for worship during construction. The architect's final rendering of St. Paul's can be viewed below and the community is invited to attend an August 18th groundbreaking event at 5pm for the new building. (JM)
