11/14/13 - After the controversial firing of David Murphy in October, the City of South Lyon has a new interim city manager. Former City manager Rodney Cook was chosen to take over the position for the next six months while a more permanent replacement is found. He takes over those duties from Police Chief Lloyd Collins, who filled in following Murphyâs departure. Last monthâs firing of David Murphy was approved 4-to-3 by the board, and the reaction among residents has been strong. A Facebook page has been formed in opposition to the council members who voted against Murphy and calling for more transparent government. Mayor Tedd Wallace, who was among those who voted to oust Murphy, has responded to the page by saying it was a business move that was made as part of an effort to bring the city in a new direction. He adds that he has seen positive comments as well. Wallace tells WHMI the council was unanimous in choosing Cook, who served the city for 25 years before retiring 5 years ago. It is still too early for the city to begin taking applications for the job, but Wallace says the city council hopes to fill the position before Cookâs six-month contract expires. (TD)
