11/17/13 - A Deerfield Township man facing amended charges in an alleged assault on his former girlfriend is heading to trial in January. 25-year-old Alan Dean March Jr. was originally charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, aggravated domestic violence, interfering with electronic communications, and resisting a police officer. Prosecutors have since amended the first charge to assault by strangulation. The defense sought to remand the case back to District Court for a new preliminary exam on the amended charge but Circuit Court Judge Michael Hatty denied that motion. The defense also sought to compel the victimâs medical records but Judge Hatty denied that motion as well. Unless a plea agreement is reached, he is scheduled for trial in early January. Police March told his former girlfriend he planned to attack another man she liked if she did not come to his home on Cohoctah Road on May 29th. The woman told authorities she went to the home in an effort to calm March, but was instead attacked and choked by him. The victim said March also took her cell phone so she could not call authorities but she was eventually able to escape and call 911. When police arrived March had fled the area, but he was taken into custody two days later. (JM)
