11/17/13 - A Friday night collision between a car and a semi appeared to be life-threatening, but both drivers now appear to be in better shape than expected. The crash happened at about 11:30 Friday night on M-59 in Genoa Township. Undersheriff Mike Murphy says preliminary investigations indicate a semi driver from Lansing was traveling westbound on M-59 when he lost control and the truck overturned, blocking both lanes of the roadway. A Grand Blanc man traveling eastbound on 59 then crashed into the truck, coming to a stop inside the trailer. Both men were transported to the University of Michigan Hospital by Livingston County EMS with what responders believed were life-threatening injuries, but Murphy says they were not as badly hurt as initially believed. Both are now expected to be fine. Police are now investigating the crash and trying to determine what caused the semi to overturn in the first place, but Murphy says drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved. (TD)
