12/13/13 - A Hamburg Township father who police say abused his infant daughter for amusement is heading to prison. 27-year-old Robert George Albert was ordered to serve a minimum of one year and four months and a maximum of two years in prison. He was sentenced in Livingston County Circuit Court this week and will receive credit for 551 days already served. Albert had been charged with 1st degree child abuse after authorities said he intentionally caused physical harm to his then-9-month-old daughter last year. But he later pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of 3rd degree child abuse instead. Possible injuries were discovered on the infant during a routine exam in May of 2012 and medical personnel later testified the girl suffered multiple fractures and hemorrhaging in her eyes, which indicated abuse. Albertâs brother and a friend previously testified that he toyed with his daughter just to hear her cry as some sort of game, would put her in âstress positions,â and would bind her arms when feeding her to prevent her from grabbing the utensils. They also alleged Albert and the infantâs mother smoked synthetic marijuana in front of the child. (JM)
