12/13/13 - A propane leak prompted a road closure and some evacuations on Friday evening in the Green Oak Township and Whitmore Lake area. The Green Oak Fire Department responded to Corriganâs Propane on Whitmore Lake Road, just north of Eight Mile Road after a propane valve broke during a tank filling. One worker at the plant suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by co-workers. Deputy Green Oak Fire Chief Kevin Gentry tells WHMI over 1,000 pounds of propane was released and Corrigan Oil workers on scene repaired the valve once the leak was halted and the tank had been emptied. Whitmore Lake Road was closed between Eight Mile and Nine Mile Roads while neighboring businesses were evacuated for approximately an hour as a precaution, until all flammable gas levels could be checked in surrounding buildings. The Green Oak and Northfield Police Departments assisted with traffic. (JM)
