1/8/14 - A crash that critically injured a motorcyclist last year in Howell will not result in any charges being filed. The 49-year-old Howell resident was eastbound on Grand River the evening of October 11th when police say he entered the center lane to turn left into a restaurant east of National Street. A driver in the near westbound lane reportedly stopped and signaled for the motorcycle to turn, but a vehicle in the far lane did not stop and collided with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Howell Police say while the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, alcohol and drugs were not factors. Chief George Basar tells WHMI that while all appearances were that the incident was a tragic accident, they did complete an investigation and submit it to the Livingston County Prosecutorâs Office per procedure. He says they learned Tuesday that the prosecutorâs office felt there was no basis for criminal charges, essentially closing the case. (JK)
