1/8/14 - A possible tragedy was avoided when a Pinckney police officer stepped up to deliver a baby last week. Officer Michael Randall responded to a call in the Village of Pinckney at about 4:10am on January 2nd. He arrived to find a woman in labor and her child about to arrive. Being a trained paramedic, Randall was able to determine that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the babyâs neck and the child was blue from lack of oxygen. Randall was able to unwrap the baby from the umbilical cord and successfully complete the delivery. He was also able to control excessive bleeding from the mother. The Putnam Township Fire Department and Livingston County EMS arrived on the scene to take the mother and child to St. Joseph Livingston Hospital, and both are now in good condition. The emergency paramedics and the babyâs pediatrician both credit Randallâs training and quick action with preventing a potential tragedy with the birth. (TD)
