1/31/14 - Livingston County continued to move up the list of Michigan counties with the lowest unemployment rates in December. The local seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate of 7.1% earns Livingston County the #16 spot on the list of Michiganâs 83 counties, up from #17 in November. From December 2012 to December 2013, the economic region that includes most of Metro Detroit, including Livingston County, saw unemployment rates drop by more than 20%, more than double the decline of any other statistical region in the state and well above the state average decline of 11.9%. Within that region, only Oakland County had a lower unemployment rate than Livingston at 6.7%. The total civilian labor force and employment numbers grew slightly statewide over the year, but that rate of improvement was also outpaced by the numbers seen in Livingstonâs economic area. (TD)
