2/21/14 - A beloved Livingston County Sheriffâs Department K-9 has been honored after his passing. Deputy Anthony Clayton says the departmentâs German Shepherd Diago had to be euthanized Wednesday after a nearly two-week fight with prostate cancer. Clayton says the 6 and a half year old was originally from the Netherlands who served as a dual purpose explosives K-9 who over the course of his career not only cleared numerous schools and other buildings from bomb threats, but also regularly helped to find lost children and once even tracked and found an Alzheimer's patient that had wandered away from his home in Shiawassee County. Diago also tracked a burglary suspect in Brighton and located his bloody clothing, which was used for a DNA match that closed the case. Clayton says Diago was a very good friend of his who will be missed greatly. In his honor, Livingston County Central Dispatch requested a moment of silence for Diago while he was being euthanized on Wednesday. (JK)
