3/26/14 - Officials in Dexter say participation in a new state initiative will increase economic development capabilities for the village. Dexter is one of 17 communities selected for the MEDC Redevelopment Ready Communities statewide certification program designed to integrate transparency, predictability and efficiency into daily development practices. It aims to help communities strategically position themselves for investment and development. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation will evaluate communities and measure their efforts before and after certification. Upon successful completion, Dexter will receive assistance in actively marketing the Villageâs top redevelopment sites. Village President Shawn Keough said while the community has grown in population over the past decade, efforts to plan ahead for change have served them well but also helped maintain the unique character of the town. He says the new program will help promote the community and showcase redevelopment opportunities. The next steps in the certification process include a program presentation to the community.
