9/29/14 - A local womanâs final wishes were granted Sunday afternoon, honoring her memory with the love of her life. Marilyn Jones, Founder of the Livingston County Chorale and Artistic Director until her retirement in 2009, was known for her passion for music. Jones, who passed away this summer, preferred a concert including a variety of musical performances as opposed to a funeral. The Brighton Center for the Performing Arts was bursting at the seams with those who gathered to remember someone loved and lost. Dr. Robert A. Martin, a friend and former student of Marilynâs, was a part of producing the memorial event. Martin tells WHMI Marilyn was the one who designed the concert. Marilyn worked with the Wayne State University Chorale as well as the Schoolcraft Community Chorale. She came to Brighton after retiring from Detroit Public Schools and is described as an âadmired mentor and colleagueâ. Martin tells WHMI she touched lives throughout the years. The performances ranged from classical music to readings and instrumental work. Martin says Marilyn âloved it allâ. (DK)
