2/6/13 - Firefighters were able to prevent further damage to a South Lyon home following a garage fire Tuesday afternoon. The South Lyon Fire Department says it responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of Harvard Avenue shortly before 4pm. Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a detached garage fully involved. The department says firefighters quickly knocked down the garage fire, which was threatening the home in front of it. The home suffered radiant heat damage to the siding but due to the quick actions of firefighters, the family was able to stay in the home last night. Officials say the garage and its contents, which included a four wheeler, were a total loss. There were no injuries and the department says the fire originated by a wood burning stove and has been ruled accidental. The Lyon Township and Green Oak Township Fire Departments assisted at the scene, along with the Huron Valley EMS and the South Lyon Police Department.
