2/6/13 - Some Howell High School students will hold a memorial gathering this week for a former schoolmate who passed away last month. 2011 Howell graduate Ryan Garrison died January 29th. In his honor, a Memorial Lighting of the Lanterns will take place Friday night near the Rock by the high school gymnasium. Students have been selling sky lanterns for the gathering for $5 apiece. Senior Leah Jacobs organized the event, and she says the proceeds were originally going to go to Garrisonâs family. However, at the familyâs request, they will now go the ALS Foundation which is seeking a cure for Lou Gehrigâs Disease. Jacobs says although candles will be available, sky lanterns are being used as a more graceful and optimistic alternative. She says so far 30 lanterns have been sold and more than a hundred people are planning to attend. The gathering will take place at 9:00 Friday night. Anyone who would like to come is welcome. (TD)
