3/5/13 - In an effort to communicate the work of the County Board of Commissioners to constituents, Board Chair Carol Griffith delivered a State of the County address last night. More than 100 people packed into the historic court house in downtown Howell to hear the address. It has been several years since a state of the county address has been delivered, and Griffith chose to highlight on the positive aspects of county development and finance. She was assisted by Commissioner Steve Williams, who discussed new or expanding developments in each commissionerâs district. These included the new Legacy Park athletic facility in Green Oak, the renovated 2|42 Church in Genoa, and the new Pinckney Community Public Library facility. Griffith also acknowledged some challenges in the future, including an estimated $1 million drop in state shared revenue for 2014 and the possibility of local townships being unable to pay debts backed by the county. However, she maintained that Livingston County is on firm financial footing and the outlook is positive. Griffith thanked several department heads, county staff, and the other members of the commission for their efforts. The address received a standing ovation. (TD)
